INTIMATE COMMISSIONS
INTIMATE COMMISSIONS is an ongoing dialogic art project, developed and facilitated by Catherine Mueller + John Borstel.
Isn't it fun to receive a gift? They say giving is just as good as receiving. What might happen if we thought of our art-making as gift-making? What if we thought of our gift-making as dialogue? What if we curated our making processes such that art could be made for another, ANY other, via a few simple steps?
INTIMATE COMMISSIONS is radicalizing the art making and sharing process by doing just that. The structure of gift-making begins with each participating artist filling out a LYRICAL DOSSIER. Then, artists are placed in a chain of giving and receiving that provides structured time in which to conceive, make and share an art-present based on the contents of another artist's LYRICAL DOSSIER.
INTIMATE COMMISSIONS facilitates an exchange of art and ideas across form, media, geographical and philosophical distance. It is suited for non-traditional art-making communities as well as artists who seek to investigate the nature of a commission, the provocation of an audience of one, and what art, when presented as a gift, makes possible.
